Piano tuning is the process of harmonizing the sounds of the chromatic scale with each other by means of interval quarto-fifth temperament on a family of keyboard-stringed musical instruments. Currently, the main representatives of this family are pianos - pianos and grand pianos. Traditionally, there are 2 main tuning systems for a piano - quinto-fourth (quarter-fifth) and tertz-sixth, but correct tempering is impossible without using both systems. Typically the starting sound is the A of the first octave, this note is tuned to a 440 Hz tuning fork. In concert halls, a setting of 442 Hz is used today, sometimes higher. Then the tuner builds temperament in the so-called "temperament zone" - within one octave from "a" small to "a" first octave. Then the built system is "replicated" in octaves in the upper and lower registers. In concert tuning, the correctness of the octave tuning is checked by other intervals. Currently, among Russian tuners, there are discussions about using the tuner. Opponents believe that tuning with a tuner is not so reliable, since modern tuners do not cover the required frequency range and are inferior to the human ear. Proponents believe that pure tuning without a tuner is impossible. The second position is supported by the fact that modern devices allow covering the entire range of the piano; Western tuners constantly use tuners in their work; an objective check of the quality of the tuner's work is possible only with the use of an industrial tuner. Since a piano is a complex and expensive instrument, and its frame is under a heavy load, tuning requires from the master not only a very responsible approach, but professionalism, which means professional training from a piano master and work experience. The piano master (technician-tuner) knows how not only to tune the piano, but also to carry out its repair, up to a complete bulkhead, replacement of parts and, often, restoration. In Russian music schools, the duties of a tuner, in addition to tuning, include the repair and adjustment of the keyboard-hammer mechanism. At present, humidifiers and humidity regulators are used everywhere in Europe to ensure the safety of pianos everywhere - in concert halls, educational institutions and private homes. The climate control system maintains a constant temperature and humidity in the instrument and justifies itself well, extending its life by 2-3 times. The claims of some firms about the "licensed installation" - the exclusive right to sell - are not supported by either European practice or manufacturer policy. Any piano maker can order and install this system.
